Your data
Delete your account.
Leaving should be as easy as arriving. This page explains how to delete your Our Dacha account and the data that goes with it: in the app in under a minute, or by email if you can no longer sign in. It also says, honestly, what is removed, what remains, and when.
The short version
- Delete in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account, then type DELETE to confirm.
- Can't sign in? Email hello@dacha.town from your account's email address and we will do it for you, within 30 days.
- Before you go, you can use "download everything" to export your whole world in one ZIP.
- Deletion is permanent. There is no undo, and we cannot restore a deleted account.
- Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel that with Apple or Google.
Before you go: take your world with you
Everything you made is yours. From the app's settings (and from the read-only archive screen, if your subscription has lapsed), "download everything" exports your world in one ZIP: your content as structured JSON, a readable PDF you can keep or print, and your original photos and media. If you want a copy, take it before you delete, because afterwards there is nothing left to export.
Option 1: delete in the app (fastest)
Works on iPhone, Android, and the web app, and takes effect immediately:
- Open Our Dacha and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Account → Delete account. (If you land on the subscription or read-only screen instead, the "delete account" link at the bottom of that screen goes to the same place.)
- Read the confirmation, then type DELETE to confirm.
That is all. Your login stops working straight away, and the data described below is permanently removed.
Option 2: ask us by email
If you can no longer access the app (a lost device, a forgotten password you don't wish to reset, an uninstalled app), you can request deletion without signing in:
- Write to hello@dacha.town with the subject line "Delete my account".
- Send the request from the email address on your account, or tell us that address so we can verify the request really comes from you. We may ask a follow-up question to confirm; we will never delete an account on an unverified say-so.
- We confirm once it is done. Verified requests are completed within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
You can use the same address to ask for a copy of your data instead of, or before, deletion.
What is deleted, and what remains
-
Deleted immediately, permanently
Your login and the ability to sign in; your profile and display name; your avatar; your pairing; your personal settings and preferences; your push-notification tokens; and your stored location, if you were sharing it. If you are the last (or only) member of the dacha, the remaining shared records and stored couple media are removed as well.
-
Your partner's copy of the shared world
A dacha is shared, so things the two of you made together (letters, photos, diary answers, gifts) remain part of your partner's copy of the shared world after you leave. When they delete their account too, all of it goes. If something specific troubles you, write to us and we will help.
-
Backups
Copies remaining in our routine backups age out automatically on the normal backup rotation. Backups are never restored or mined for any other purpose, and a deleted account is not resurrected from them.
-
The few records the law expects us to keep
If we hold any minimal records we are legally required to retain (for example, evidence that we honoured a deletion request), we keep only what the obligation demands, for only as long as it demands.
A kind, practical thought: deleting your side closes the home you kept together. It is worth mentioning to your partner first.
Subscriptions are separate
Deleting your account does not cancel an active App Store or Google Play subscription, because Apple and Google manage those, not us. To stop being billed:
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Our Dacha → Cancel. Apple's guide: support.apple.com/118428.
- Android: Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Our Dacha → Cancel. Google's guide: support.google.com.
The app reminds you of this during deletion too, so nobody keeps paying for a home they have left.
Questions first?
If something is wrong and deletion feels like the only fix, write to us first; a real person reads every message, and most problems are mendable. For everything about how your data is handled, see the privacy policy.
